I've launched a campaign to improve the facilities at our local primary schools.
At Burnside Primary, most buildings were constructed between 1907 and 1970, with no major upgrades in nearly 15 years. Five outdated transportables have become permanent fixtures and are no longer fit for purpose. I'm advocating for a new multi-level building to replace the substandard classrooms near William Street, a Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA), new toilets, and an upgraded performing arts centre.
At Linden Park Primary, I observed infrastructure well below acceptable standards - including cracked internal walls, outdated toilets, threadbare carpets, a leaky transportable with inadequate air-conditioning, and corroded metalwork in a covered corridor. I'm seeking funding to address these issues and progress the School's Master Plan, including investment at the Mariner Oval Site.
At Rose Park Primary, I'm exploring the need for a larger school hall. The current hall, built in 1993, has mould issues and no longer accommodates whole-school assemblies, forcing the school to split them or meet outdoors - not ideal in extreme weather.
