Campaign Status

Active - currently fighting for funding for infrastructure upgrades at Burnside Primary School.

Why are you campaigning?

I am concerned about the outdated and inadequate infrastructure currently being utilised at Burnside Primary School. Most buildings at the School were constructed between 1907-1970, and no major upgrades have occurred in nearly 15 years. Five poorly ill-equipped transportable buildings have become permanent fixtures and are clearly no longer fit for purpose. Our students deserve better!

I am calling for:

• A new multi-level building to replace the not-fit-for-purpose transportable classrooms near William St, comprising new classrooms, a state-of-the-art multi-purpose function space and STEM centre, small and large breakout spaces for student collaboration and new bathroom facilities to provide function and flexibility to adapt to the teaching and learning needs now - and for future generations;

• A Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA);

• New toilets to replace the inadequate and outdated toilet block near the top playground; and

• An upgraded Performing Arts Centre, with movable tiered seating and new toilets.

What am I currently doing?

I am currently advocating for Burnside Primary School in parliament, and directly with the Minister for Education. In April, I spoke in Parliament about the school’s needs for updated infrastructure and new facilities. I have invited the Minister to visit the school, in order to first-hand see the help it needs.

What have you done so far?

• Visited Burnside Primary School with the Principal to assess the situation firsthand.

• Delivered a speech in Parliament highlighting the urgent need for upgrades and funding.

• Proposed a range of improvements including; A new multi-level building, a Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA), New toilets to replace the outdated facilities and an upgraded Performing Arts Centre with tiered seating.

• Engaged directly with the Minister and secured a commitment for a school visit.
