Campaign to get trucks off Portrush Road

Published March 2024

We have put up with trucks on our local roads for far too long – they increase congestion and present serious road safety concerns.

I have been campaigning to get trucks off our local roads since I was elected. I have collected thousands of signatures on petitions, given countless speeches in Parliament, wrote to Ministers and called for action at community meetings and through the media. And we were making progress.

Unfortunately, this progress has recently been seriously halted. Plans to get trucks off Portrush Road suffered a devastating setback thanks to Labor scrapping funding for the Truro Bypass.

The Truro Bypass – which received joint funding from the previous state and federal Liberal government in 2021 – was an important first step in a wider Greater Adelaide Freight Bypass. No Truro Bypass means no Greater Adelaide Freight Bypass which means regrettably trucks will continue to thunder along our local roads.

I’ll keep fighting to get trucks off Portrush Road even if Labor will not. Join my campaign by signing my petition here.
